Last night the hubs and I made a gingerbread house. Well, I made it and he just watched/took photos.
I have never made a gingerbread house before and I have ALWAYS wanted to. Uuuumm, no one told me how difficult they are. I was like, "Seriously? I worked kind of hard and even used my own pastry bag & tips and it STILL looks this crappy?"
Oh well. Maybe next year it will be better... I hope. It was also technically not a gingerbread house. It was made out of chocolate, not gingerbread, and the decorations were all peppermint. As much as I LOOOOOVE peppermint, I was pretty bummed that all we could find was a not-so-traditional house that wasn't already pre-assembled.
Whateves. It turned out kinda cute and it's about as close as I'll ever get to having a gnome in my front yard since David loathes gnomes.

FUN! The hardest part is keeping the sides up, I think. Its so fun to make your own little house. I love your little gnome!

wow!! that looks great! ours did not turn out quite so lovely this year. it was quite disasterous looking but it was still fun and a memory made with the family!
Hey thanks ladies!! I thought it turned out pretty sloppy looking, but the pictures make it look cuter than it is in person HA HA!
Diana: I TOTALLY agree. The sides kept slipping and I was thinking, "Oh jeez, this is so not going to work."
Elisabeth & Liesl: I love gnomes, too!! Well I'm not exactly sure where I got it because it was a housewarming gift and, of course, I have forgotten who it was from! He came with a little booklet too hahaha
Melissa: you're right, all that really matters is the memories you made and not how it turned out looking. I'm sure when we have kids it will look nuts and I'll have to resist the urge to make it pretty, haha!
It's so cuuuute! And FTR, I adore gnomes. We have one in our front yard named Barnabus...I think it embarrasses my ILs a bit, but he's the best! Haha
Barnabus! What a great name for a gnome. I seriously love them, too, but I KNOW when we get a house there is NO way Dave is letting me get one :(
your first attempt at your gingerbread house is amazing. i just attempted my first one last night with the help of my hubs matthew...we knew the icing wasn't going to hold so we resorted to a hot glue gun...guess we're not eating it. ours was inspired by the movie "up"

Hot glue gun! Genius! Why didn't I consider that?? It's pretty funny because we left our gingerbread house out while we were in New York. It was still intact when we got home (even with the cat by himself) until the morning after we came home, one side of the roof fell! Haahaha, I thought it was so ironic that it held itself together until after we got home!
MarMar: Thank you SO much! I'm so happy you love it. The second time Alli dyed it, she used a lot more red and less copper, which has been fun, but I think next time I'll have her go more like a true ginger!
