vday weekend

So I'll just start this off by saying this: I didn't finish the slideshows.

I had all of them done except for Italy and when it came down to it today, cupcakes made, house clean, dinner ready to be prepared, t minus one hour before the arrival of my in-laws, I gave up on all hope of finishing. I mean, the last slideshow wasn't even finished and I still had to set up the DVD menu, burn the discs and make the DVD labels. I mean, hello, an hour?

Um, no.

But it's okay. We had a great evening nonetheless, and we set up a little theater in my office so everyone could watch the slideshows that I had finished, promising them that they'd get their own copies soon.

Maybe if I hadn't have made the cupcakes I would have been able to finish the DVDs, but honestly, I'm stoked on these red velvets. Red velvet cupcakes/cakes are notoriously difficult to get right. I'll admit right now that they're certainly not the best RVCC's I've ever had, but they are a whole lot better than the ones I've made in the past. I followed a Paula Deen recipe that David emailed me (Hint much??).

They're definitely not as amazing as Bake 'n Broil's RVCCs, but they're pretty delicious (this is where you pat me on the back... jk). Anyway, they turned out very pretty as well, as you can see :)

{Uuuum, the BEST cream cheese frosting ever. Seriously}

But I must tell you all about my amazing day/evening yesterday. Months ago I set a date with my friend Rhett to come over to his house and decorate Valentine's Day cookies with our friend Keegan (who is actually the sister of my good friend Kitty who did my incredible wedding invitations) and we had such a great/hilarious/fun time.

Here's a peek at our creations...

And then later that evening I met up with David and our Fusion (young marrieds) group from church for an amazing Valentine's dinner. We all dressed up and the guys cooked and served all the ladies. We had champagne, wine, hors d'oeuvres, salad, an amazing dinner (filet mignon for the carnivores, portobello mushrooms for the vegetarians) and macrons and three different kinds of homemade sorbets. All of this food was cooked from scratch (and so delicious) by Brian with help from all the guys.

It was so sweet to see all of the hard work that our husbands put into this dinner to show us how much they love us. Super cute.

{The guys set all this up!}

You did an amazing job on the cupcakes!! They look absolutely divine. And the cookies look so scrumptious. I think we all forgive you for not making the slideshow!
