Introducing...

After several comments, emails and inquiries from quite a few of my readers and friends, I have finally created a recipe blog. It took me a long time to decide if this was something I wanted to do and once I did, I realized it was even harder to figure out a name I was happy with. But it's finally here!

My first post is actually a quite complicated recipe: Apple Pie

I chose Apple Pie because of all the things I bake, it is my specialty. You just can't go wrong with good old-fashioned homemade apple pie.

I promise to all of my readers that not all of my recipes will be so complicated. I mean, who can live, cook and bake like that 24/7?
I can't.

I will also obviously continue to post here on He Calls Me Wifey. My new blog is not a replacement to this one, it's just an extra treat. He Calls Me Wifey à la mode, if you will ;)

So please do me a solid and follow my new blog Wifey à la mode

Thank you all in advance and I hope you enjoy my new blog!

don't you love it

Don't you love it when something unexpected happens,

something like a huge crash of a wave un-welcomingly tumbles you down,

pushes you ten steps back from where you've so weakly climbed

and the love of your life is right there,

right where you need him,

exactly what you need him to be.

And though at first you may not realize it, somewhere in the midst of it
the tears in your eyes cease to drain you

and by the words of his prayer and the touch of his hand

you realize that you are

HOME.

an update of sorts

This week has been CAH-RAY-ZEE.
Seriously, it flew.

The opening weekend of the show ended.
I baked that delicious apple pie.
Dave got ready to leave on his business trip to Paris.
I packed up some stuff to stay at my mom's while he's away and got ready for the second weekend of shows by baking cupcakes for the cast.
Then yesterday morning I woke up early to bake cookies for the awesome cast party we had at Sue's house after the Sunday matinee.
One of the actor's had to go to the ER literally an hour before the Sunday matinee performance so we had several actors take over for his scenes. It was scary and fun and adventurous, but mostly we just hope Dwayne is okay.
I came to my house this morning to spend some time with Bogart (he really missed me) and clean the house to get ready for  girl's night which I hosted this week.
Chanell was the only one who made it, but it was awesome. We locked ourselves out of the house because we were walking to her car so she could get a book for me to borrow. We both left our cell phones in the house, so we had to knock on my awesome neighbor's door to use their phone. I called my mom who is also in Paris because I don't have my husband's cell phone number memorized (I know, I'm a doofus) and I needed my mother-in-law's number so she could bring over the spare key. I kept getting cut off from my mom so we called a locksmith instead. He couldn't pick the lock, so instead he jumped through the window and I paid $135 for that, which REALLY blows, but it was hilarious and now Chanell and I have a funny story to tell and I'm just thankful we got back in the house.

So about those cupcakes I made... they were incredible. I made four dozen. Yes, FOUR DOZEN. By Saturday there were only 4 or 5 left.

I got the recipe from Erin at Sunshine and Carousels. Her cupcakes and baked goods always look so amazing and I've been meaning to bake something from her blog, so I used this opportunity (and that huge jar of Nutella in my cupboard) to do so!

I made the Banana and Peanut Butter Cupcakes with Nutella frosting and I'm telling you they were EXTRAORDINARY.

One of the crew members had at least 3 or 4 of them. Everyone loved them. I'm so happy they turned out so amazing. You should definitely check out the recipe here.

I wrote little notes of thanks and attached them to each cupcake so that the cast and crew knew how much I appreciated all of their hard work. They all seemed to love it.

While cleaning the house today I gathered together the remains of the bouquet of flowers Erin and Jon gave me when they came to see my play and they added so much color and life to the living room!

Bogart really is the king of the castle around here.

I guess he's really into Seinfeld now.

The flowers from Erin & Jon, as well as the ceramic tea set and platter they gave us as our wedding gift.

She & Him
Volume One

I'll be continuing to stay at my mom's house for the rest of the week and she doesn't have a working computer so I won't be blogging as regularly and I definitely won't be able to keep updated on everyone else's blog, unfortunately.
I'm sorry in advance to all my favorite blogs out there! I hope you know who you are :)

One Year Anniversary Weekend {Image Heavy}

On the weekend of March 13th, David and I celebrated one year of marriage. We were given the wonderful opportunity to go back to The Millennium Biltmore in downtown LA, where we were married exactly a year earlier.
There is no better word to describe that weekend than bittersweet. The memories of moments and of people flooded back like a huge crashing wave.
I’d be lying if I said that this first year hasn’t been difficult. My family has gone through hell and it’s been a really hard road for each of us in different ways. There were so many times that I asked God, “Why this year? Why in our first year of marriage?,” but I have no reason to question the Lord and his infinite wisdom and unusual timing.
I lost a couple of friends to circumstance, bitterness, ignorance, or betrayal. I also lost a dear, lifelong friend who meant so much to me. So much more than I realized until the moment the shocking news of his death was relayed. I also gained some wonderful friends and re-gained an old one. I attended three funerals within one month, one of which I didn’t think I could sit through without wanting to scream obscenities at the top of my lungs (and for good reason) and another that I couldn’t hold back the brokenhearted tears of a man who deserved a standing ovation.
A lot of things occurred, some wonderful and some horrible, but the one thing I know for sure is that I don’t think I could have gone through it and come out this in tact without David. He has stood by me through one of the toughest years of my life. He has put up with so many tears, so many rants, so many moody moments and outbursts of frustration or anger. Though he can’t fully understand, he tries his best to do so. He prays for me, he holds my hand, he rubs my back, he brings me water and tea. He wraps his arms around me and comforts my aching heart... be still my aching heart.
This year has also tested my faith. It has made me question a few of my beliefs. It has brought me to a place of trust and hope in the Lord. It has made me face my demons and has opened my eyes to what lies within my heart of hearts.
David and I got a lot more involved in church, we have developed friendships with some really great people and are still beginning others. I have sought counseling for what this year has brought and though I am no where near the place of closure, I am on the path to healing.
And that is where we are at right now.

So here are some (translation: a TON) of photos from our Anniversary weekend. We had so much fun. We relaxed, we ate great food, we swam in the pool, we slept in. It was fabulous.
